Bowers News Media LLC is a one-person grassroots activism email list run by Chris Bowers, a 20-year veteran of online progressive politics at Daily Kos, Open Left and MyDD. Chris writes, edits and formats all of the emails himself, in an honest, measured, personal voice, citing all of his sources and avoiding exaggeration. His aim to bring you the most efficient activism operation around, almost entirely free of overhead, and to always remain accessible to you by reading every single email you send him (and replying to most of them).
Bowers News Media PAC is a federal, nonconnected political action committee that functions as a fundraising conduit for Democratic candidates supported by Bowers News Media LLC, Wolves and Sheep, and Bowers Kerbel Media. Chris Bowers serves as the Treasurer of the PAC. Endorsement decisions are made in consultation between Dr. Matthew Kerbel and Chris Bowers.
Chris Bowers is a 20-year veteran of online, progressive grassroots news and political activism. For 14 years, Chris served as the director of the email and activism programs at Daily Kos, growing those programs from scratch into one of the largest grassroots news and activism operations in the history of the Internet. Before Daily Kos, Chris spent six years writing for the blogs MyDD and Open Left, publishing over 3,000,000 words and generating over 10,000,000 pageviews.

The journalist Edward R. Murrow long ago warned, “A nation of sheep will beget a government of wolves.” Well, here we are. It’s scary and dislocating to live in a time when the foundations we took for granted our entire lives are under assault. Things like personal rights, free elections, and democracy itself. Things that provided a basic sense of personal security. Democracy survived an insurrection—but the insurrection isn’t over. Could it succeed next time? Is partisanship going to define everything we do for the rest of our lives? What’s driving all this instability? Why is it happening now? Will it ever get better? Wolves and Sheep is a place to understand these questions through the lens of history and social science—a perspective you won’t find in mainstream punditry. And it’s a place to gather with others who share your concerns about living in an age when the ground never stops moving under our feet.

His titles include If It Bleeds, It Leads: An Analysis of Television News, and two books on the rise of online progressive activism: Netroots and Next Generation Netroots (co-authored with Chris Bowers). His work traces the arc of political engagement from the cynical television-dominated 1990s through the revival of grassroots activism in the twenty-first century. Becoming a paid subscriber requires starting a monthly donation of $8, or an annual donation of $80. In addition to supporting efficient, timely and accessible political activism and analysis, paid subscribers receive access to my weekly Life in Activism memo where I offer insights from my 20 years in politics, an extra longform article a week from Matt who spent over 30 years as a political science professor, access to our interactive political briefings and the ability to comment on Wolves and Sheep. While we try to be as efficient as possible, we do still have bills to pay and need grassroots supporters to keep going.
